WHAT'S ON WONKY PANTRY SHELVES THIS DECEMBER?

Welcome to the Wonky Pantry! A selection of planet-positive products you can add on to your Wonky Box order when you’re feeling hungry to do a bit more good.

We’ve hand-picked each brand and product, to showcase other producers who share our vision for reducing food waste in the New Zealand supply chain, and who have products that need rescuing from lesser outcomes. Plus more of the in-season, curious crops you love or that add an extra flavour boost to your Wonky hauls.

Let’s dig in to December’s Pantry Picks:

AVAILABLE NATIONWIDE:

CULLEY’S CHILI CON CARNE DRY SPICE MIX

This batch of Mexican-inspired spice mix was headed overseas - until the order fell through! Now these packs of smoky, savory seasoning are traveling straight to your kitchen instead.

This is the recipe base you need to create a flavour-packed meal, with no fuss. Perfect after a long day’s work. Simply mix with ground beef, beans or lentils, tomatoes and your favourite toppings (sour cream, cheese, or guacamole!) - and that’s dinner ready!

OLD ROAD HONEY COMPANY MIXED FLORAL HONEY

Made from bees that have done as they please! This honey was packaged as Pure Cream Honey, before it was discovered the hardworking bees buzzed to a variety of plants to find their pollen, changing the composition of the honey to Mixed Floral instead. The combination of nectar from different flowers creates a more complex and layered flavour profile - an adventure in every bite.

Rather than this honey ending up homeless due to incorrect packaging, we’ve welcomed it to the Pantry instead. Just remember the name on the jar isn’t quite right.

TRUSS TOMATOES

Enjoy classic red tomatoes fresh out of Nelson. While they’re on the smaller side, they’re big on flavour! These everyday heroes are perfect for slicing into sandwiches or burgers, and shine in caprese salads.

Coming into summer, you may start to see cherry tomatoes cropping up in regular Wonky Boxes. Top up your tomato stash with Truss from the Pantry when you fancy a medium sized tomato or a richer tomato sauce for your next spaghetti dish or curry.

CHERRIES WITH CHARACTER

The taste of Christmas!

NORTH ISLAND - These cheerful cherries are rolling in from the sunny Hawke’s Bay. Situated near the Ngaruroro River, this grower has been cultivating cherries on 7 hectares of fertile land since 2000. These cherries are juicy and delicious but haven't made the cut for export, as they're slightly smaller, might not be perfectly red or have missing stems. But they're far too yummy to not have a home!

SOUTH ISLAND - We’ve teamed up with Mr Jacks in Central Otago to bring you the early-season Burlat cherry. Not quite up to export standard for size or shape imperfections, we're excited to welcome these extra-charming cherries into the Pantry.
