Leeks can be a great ingredient, but they tend to trap dirt and sand in their layers. Not to worry! We've got a practical leek-washing hack that's both efficient and speedy. And, for your convenience, we've added a helpful video tutorial.

Step 1: Prepare Your Leeks

If your recipe calls for larger pieces of leeks, start by slicing off the root. Don't be too quick to discard those darker green leaves – they're perfectly edible!

Step 2: Split the Leek

Slice your leeks down the middle, creating two halves.

Step 3: Rinse Away the Grit

Hold one half of the leek under cold running water, using your fingers to separate the leaves gently. This will allow the water to flow through, dislodging any dirt or sand that's hiding in there. Repeat this process until all your leek halves are squeaky clean.

Step 4: Sliced Leeks? No Problem!

For recipes that require sliced leeks, proceed to slice them to your desired thickness. Here's a hack: place the sliced leeks into a bowl of cold water and give them a gentle swirl. This helps release any trapped particles. Once done, simply drain out the water.
